As summer’s most beloved brand, USA officially kicks off the season with the most-watched series Royal Pains and last year’s rookie hit Necessary Roughness on Wednesday, June 6 at 9/8c and 10/9c. The momentum heats up with returns of Burn Notice and the acclaimed drama Suits on Thursday, June 14 at 9/8c and 10/9c followed by all-new seasons of WHITE COLLAR and Covert Affairs on Tuesday, July 10 at 9/8c and 10/9c.

After dominating the summer television landscape with a historic seven series on-air and capturing a sixth straight ratings win as cable’s top entertainment network, USA finalized its sweep of series pickups on all of its summer originals with 16-episode orders of season three of Covert Affairs, season four of Royal Pains and season two of Necessary Roughness. The renewals, which follow the season orders of White Collar, Suits, In Plain Sight and Burn Notice, were announced today by USA Co-Presidents Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel.
“USA’s original programming blew through all expectations this summer. We had an unprecedented number of original series on our air — and every single one of them was great,” said McCumber and Wachtel. “The actors who make our shows unique aren’t just stars, they are character actors in the finest sense. Our writers, directors and producers truly understand what it takes to create sustainable success. It’s a rare and wonderful thing to announce the pick-up of our entire summer of programming.”
… Necessary Roughness has been scoring touchdowns all summer long for USA as a breakout hit. The freshman series has averaged 5.85 million total viewers, 2.6 million in P25-54 and 2.4 million in P18-49 to date.

Marc Blucas briefly spent some time in Southport earlier this summer filming scenes for the pilot episode of ABC’s new drama “Revenge.” But if you tune in to the premiere at 10 p.m. Sept. 21, you won’t see Blucas anywhere.
Blucas was recast on “Revenge,” in which he appeared only briefly appeared in flashbacks as the father of a character played as an adult by Emily VanCamp. James Tupper (“Men in Trees,” “Grey’s Anatomy”) took over the role, and his new scenes (shot in California where the series films full-time) were inserted into the original pilot.
Blucas, though, is taking the change in stride. After all, the reason he ultimately couldn’t stay with “Revenge” was because ABC wanted to extend his appearances, but he was already committed full-time to the successful first season of “Necessary Roughness” on USA.
“It was disappointing,” he said. “I really liked where they wanted that character on ‘Revenge’ to go. My hat’s off to USA, because I really didn’t think they’d be cool with me going out and doing any episodes on another network.”
While USA was on board for Blucas to shoot four or five episodes, ABC’s decision to include the character in more than double that amount, plus the realization that both shows would be seen in the Wednesday-at-10 timeslot, eventually meant Blucas couldn’t do both.

I’m a firm believer that if I can get double the fun, I absolutely should. And since I’m a woman of my word, that’s what happened today, as I had the chance to talk with both the uber bright, funny and lively (and let’s not forget ridiculously handsome… sorry, that had to be said) Marc Blucas and the equally super charming football superstar Terrell Owens about the upcoming season finale of my new favorite show, USA Network’s “Necessary Roughness”. I know, it’s too much luck all at once. Though to be fair, Madame La Chance definitely owes me some more. But I can see your jealous faces and yes, I understand I deserve it. (Excuse me, my phone just rang. “Hello? Oh hi Madame La Chance. What, you’re saying you arranged for me to marry Henry Cavill next week? Well I guess we can call it even then.” THIS is how much Lady Luck owes me.)
Now, while I recover from batting eyelashes and swooning over how fantastically smart and funny Marc Blucas was and how charming Terrell Owens also was, let me sum up the basics for those who are not in the know. 1)There are going to be QUITE A FEW SPOILERS AHEAD. If you don’t want to be spoiled, DO NOT READ! (and you will miss out on Marc Blucas’s wit and on Terrell Owens’s determination to become a good actor, be warned). I’m also going to reference what happened in Wednesday’s episode, so if you haven’t watched yet and don’t want to know, go do those extra 200 pull-ups that will make you have a twelve-pack like Terrell Owens’s . Yes I said 12-pack. See below (as if I’d ever miss the chance to showcase a super fit, handsome athlete in one of my stories. Not to mention he is a majorly nice man).

There is only one episode of Necessary Roughness left. To tide us over, Marc Blucas shares his views on Matt and Dani, and guest star Terrell Owens gives some insight into what part he will play in the season finale. Be sure to tune into Necessary Roughness Wednesday night at 9 on USA (owned by NBC), locally on channel 21 for Houstonians.
The season finale showcases TK up against his rival Kevin “The Mine-field” Minnifield, played by pro football player Terrell Owens. And for Owens, it was easy to identify with TK. “I’ve been where TK is,” says Owens, and he “can understand what [TK’s] going through.” Owens describes the purpose of his character in the episode as “basically [being there] to get in the head of TK.” If you are worried that Owens will only be shown on the field during the game, you can relax because Owens told me that viewers will “definitely get to see [him] off the field,” and possibly next season! Owens suggested that it may be a possibility.

On the USA Network drama Necessary Roughness, actor Marc Blucas (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) plays Matthew Donnally, a former college basketball player turned trainer for the New York Hawks. Devoted to his football team and protective of his players, he also can’t deny his attraction to Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne). After a one-night stand and morning-after therapy session with Dr. Dani, Matt is so impressed that she gets him to quit smoking that he persuades the Hawks’ head coach to bring her in to work with the players, sending their relationship into professional co-worker territory, thereby putting a halt on exploring their feelings for each other.
During this exclusive interview with Marc Blucas, he talked about the appeal of combining his love for sports with his passion for acting, how his real-life sports background helped in developing his character, how much fun he has working with the sports coordinators to film the big game scenes with real players, and how immediate and easy the chemistry was between the cast.
Question: How did this show come about for you? Had you been looking for another TV show?
MARC BLUCAS: I’m a workaholic, so I read everything that’s out there. Most of the time, actors respond to the thing that’s so far from who they are. We all want to play the serial killer and the ex-con. But, in this particular case, I read it and it was really close to home. I spent the first 20 years of my life around sports and that was my first passion, so I thought I could bring something different to the role, but also offer a different perspective to the show because I could be a sounding board since I’ve been in this world, in real life. I was really compelled by that.
